Sanchez, Amelia Cobos
March 15 1942 - June 5, 2023
Amelia Cobos Sanchez, 81, of Goshen, passed away Monday, June 5, 2023, at home.
She was born March 15, 1942 in Tuxpan, Veracruz, Mexico, to Arturo Cobos and Lucina Cobos Santos.
On February 14, 1967 she married Cesar R. Sanchez in Mexico City, Mexico.
He survives along with two children, Oliva (Shawn) Rittenhouse of Goshen and Cesar Roberto (Dana) Sanchez of Elkhart; three grandchildren, Madison Rittenhouse and Ella and Sofia Sanchez, and two siblings, Armantina Cobos and José (Emma) Cobos, both of Mexico.
Mrs. Sanchez was an active member of Walnut Hill Mennonite Church. She enjoyed gardening and cooking. She worked at Goshen College for 25 years with the Physical Plant.
Cremation will take place at Yoder-Culp Crematory and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
Memorial gifts in Amelia’s honor may be given to Mennonite Central Committee.
Sauder, Arlene Martin
January 18, 1938 - January 12, 2023
Arlene M. (Martin) Sauder, 84, of East Earl, passed away on January 12, 2023 after a short illness.
Born in Denver, she was the daughter of the late John F. and Edna B. (Burkholder) Martin.
She was the loving wife of Earl W. Sauder, with whom she married on January 31, 1959 and shared sixty three years of marriage.
Arlene was a member of Goodville Mennonite Church and was a homemaker. She enjoyed photography, crafts, bird watching, traveling to lighthouses, and collecting them. Her favorite pastime was spending time with her husband and her family and she will be remembered most as being a people person.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Donna D. wife of Galen R. Gockley of Carthage, NY, Roger E. husband of Karen L. (Horning) Sauder of Denver, PA, Renita R. wife of Delmar L. Martin, Stevens, PA, eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, her siblings, John B. husband of Maryann Martin, Elvin B. husband of Barbara Martin, Ervin B. husband of Joyce Martin, Anna B. wife of Vernon Weaver, brother-in-law, Amos Hoover and sisters-in-law, Esther Mae Martin and Edna Martin.
In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her son Gary L. Sauder, a stillborn son and her siblings, Weaver B. Martin, Amos B. Martin, Nora B. Hoover, Lester B. Martin, Franklin B. Martin and Harold B. Martin.
A funeral service will be held on January 17, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Goodville Mennonite Church, 1556 Main Street, East Earl, PA 17519 with Pastor Bruce Sauder officiating. Burial will be held in the adjoining church cemetery. A viewing will be held at the church on Monday, January 16, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Sauder, Ivan M.
June 22, 1936 - January 4, 2023
Ivan M. Sauder, 86, a resident of the Lincoln Christian Home, passed away at the home on Wednesday, January 4, 2023. He was the husband of Susie N. Leinbach Sauder, also a resident of Lincoln Christian Home. Born in Caernarvon Township, he was the son of the late Jacob and Elizabeth Martin Sauder.
Ivan was a retired farmer. He was a member of the Churchtown Mennonite Church, Weaverland Conference.
Surviving besides his wife are three children, Marian L. wife of Raymond Zeiset of Elizabethville, Eugene L. Sauder of Ephrata, and Susan L. wife of Eugene Stauffer of Riceville, IA; 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Karen L. Sauder, a grandchild, three brothers, John M., Noah M. and Paul M. Sauder; and by two sisters, Edna M. Sauder and Laura M. Good.
A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, January 9, at 9:30 AM at the Churchtown Mennonite Church, 2207 Main St., Narvon, PA with Bishop Leon S. Zimmerman officiating. Interment in the adjoining church cemetery. A Viewing will be held on Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00 PM at the Farm Crest Chapel at Fairmount Homes, 1100 Farm Crest Drive, Ephrata, PA.

Sauder, John D.
September 18, 1949 - November 5, 2023
John D. Sauder, 74, of Lititz, went peacefully to his heavenly home on Sunday, November 5, 2023. Born in Lancaster, he was the beloved son of Carl S. & Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Lefever Sauder of New Holland. He was the husband of Bonita Heishman Sauder. John was a member of Neffsville Mennonite Church.
John attended elementary school in New Holland, and was a 1967 graduate of Christopher Dock Mennonite High School in Lansdale, PA. He also attended Eastern Mennonite University and Elizabethtown College, with a concentration in Business. John graduated from Dealers Sons School in Detroit, MI.
John N. Sauder Auto Company was founded in 1909, by John N. Sauder, (grandfather of John D, Sauder) to sell motorcycles out of his barn. In 1917, John N. Sauder turned his barn into a dealership and acquired the Overland Franchise. Durant, Studebaker, Oakland & Willies Knight Franchises were acquired in 1918, & became the foundation of John N. Sauder Auto Company. Later his sons, Mervin (father of Larry Sauder) & Carl Sauder (father of John D. Sauder) joined him in business.
The Chevrolet Franchise was acquired in 1930 & Oldsmobile in 1935.
In 1966, the Sauder's built a new 22,000 sq ft dealership at its current location, 875 West Main Street, New Holland. The new building increased the Service Department & Body Shop areas by fifty percent. Geo was also added along the way to this location.
John D. Sauder became one of the youngest dealers in the nation in the 1970's. He opened Heritage Chevrolet in Lititz in early 1970's and later merged this location with New Holland.
In 2001, John D. Sauder opened John D. Sauder Auto Company, in Ephrata, PA. The Franchises acquired were Chevrolet, Buick & Pontiac. In 2013, John led the Chevrolet Essential Brand Elements renovation of both dealerships. Both the New Holland & Ephrata Dealerships have had the honor with Chevrolet of receiving the Mark of Excellence Award, multiple times.
The long legacy of the Sauder Family takes great pride in serving the local community's automotive needs, through Sales, Service, Parts & Body Shop.
The Fourth Generation, of Candance Sauder King & John Patrick Sauder are in place to step into the roles as Co- Dealers/Owners at the New Holland & Ephrata Dealerships. The Fifth generation is starting to graduate from college with interests in business, finance and economics.
During John's years as a successful entrepreneur, he enjoyed giving back to his community. (New Holland especially had a special place in his heart) He served on the boards of Lancaster Bible College & Welsh Mountain Retreat. He supported many local schools & organizations.
John had a wide appreciation of music, especially the Beach Boys. He sang in choirs, attended concerts, played guitar & sang in his band "The Novas" during High School.
He loved to travel and visited Europe, Aruba, Canada, Central America, Bermuda, Hawaii, and he enjoyed a Disney Cruise to Bahamas with his family. One of the family's greatest adventures together was their 6-week trip to the West Coast in a motorhome during the summer of 1995.
John enjoyed golf and tennis. He was a classic car enthusiast. The Sauder family had many childhood memories at the family beach house in Ocean City, NJ. John enjoyed his family vacations in Hilton Head, SC with his family and wintering in Sarasota, FL. He had many lifelong friends that he enjoyed spending time with.
A sports fan at heart, he had 76'ers season tickets and attended many Eagles, Phillies, and Penn State games, as well as Daytona Races. His larger-than-life personality was contagious, and he delighted in planning adventures to create incredible memories with his family. His loyalty, legacy, laughter, and humor endeared him to all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Bonita, of Lititz, and their loving children: Candance, married to Wendel King of Leola; John Patrick, married to Amy Sauder of Lititz; and Jacquelyn, married to AJ Iannello of Lititz; grandchildren: Greyson, Dylan, William and Blake King; Avery and John Patrick Sauder, Jr. and Bryce Ralston. John was looking forward to meeting his youngest grandchild, Baby Iannello due in December. Brother: Eric Sauder, of Harrisonburg, VA. Preceding him in death are his daughter, Megan Suzanne Noelle Sauder Ralston, and sister, Carol Suzanne Sauder Martin.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, Nov. 13 at 1 p.m. at Neffsville Mennonite Church, 2371 Lititz Pike, Lancaster, 17601. Private interment will be at Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery. The viewing will be held at Neffsville Mennonite Church on Sunday, Nov. 12, from 3p.m. to 6 p.m. and on Monday, Nov 13, from 12p.m. to 1 p.m. before the service.

Nelson N. Sauder, 42, of 220 Geisinger Rd. Shiloh, OH passed away peacefully at 4:08 PM Tuesday, July 11, 2023 at his home after a battle with cancer and brain tumor for one year. He was the husband of Lydiann N. (Burkholder) Sauder and a member of Woodlawn Mennonite Church. Born in East Earl, PA. He was the son of Ivan and Marion Sauder of Greenwich, OH. He was self-employed as a heavy equipment mechanic in his home shop.
Surviving besides his wife are 5 daughters, Rosemary, Melva, Louise, BethAnn, Sharon and 3 sons, Philip, Virgil, Jerome all at home. Also surviving are 5 brothers Glen and Rachel, and Jason of Greenwich OH, Steven and Linda, Ivan and Laura and Vernon and Mary Anne of Shiloh, OH, and 4 sisters, Linda wife of Jason Burkholder and Lorraine wife of Lester Martin of Greenwich, OH and Marlene wife of Noah Zimmerman of Shiloh, OH and Marian wife of Leon Shirk of Shippensburg, PA. Also surviving are paternal grandmother, Alta M. Sauder wife of late Martin M. Sauder of Leola, PA and maternal grandmother Vera H. Newswanger wife of late Phares Z. Newswanger of Owen, Wis.
Calling hours will be held at Woodlawn Mennonite Church on Friday, July 14, 2023 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be on Saturday, July 15, 2023 at 9:30 a.m. at Woodlawn Mennonite Church with the home ministers officiating. Interment will follow at the adjoining cemetery.

August 11, 1946 - May 2, 2023
Born on August 11, 1946, of Drayton and formerly of Wallenstein passed away peacefully at Grand River Hospital on May 2, 2023 at the age of 76 years.
Beloved husband of Esther (Reist) Sauder for 54 years. Loving father of Michael Sauder (Tami), Steven Sauder, Glen Sauder (Becky), and Linda Martin (Arnold). Lovingly remembered by 11 grandchildren. Brother of Melvin and Irene Sauder, Betty Martin, Nelson and Martha Sauder, LydiaAnn and Paul Reist. Also survived by sister-in-law Elvina Sauder, brothers-in-law John Gingrich, Peter and Leona Reist, and many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by his parents Moses and Salome (Brubacher) Sauder, brothers Sydney (Esther), Alvin, Amsey (Hannah), George (Minerva), sister Salinda Gingrich, and brothers and sisters-in-law Alma Sauder, Edwin Martin and Susanna Reist.
Visitation will be held from 1-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, May 4, 2023 at the Dreisinger Funeral Home, 62 Arthur St. S., Elmira. Family service will take place at 9 a.m. on Friday, May 5, 2023, then to Goshen Mennonite Meeting House for burial and public service.

Zachary Martin Sauder, of Windsor, passed away on Friday, May 12, 2023. He was 2 years, 11 months, and 27 days young.
Born May 16, 2020, in Casey County, KY, he is the son of Glenn and Valerie Martin Sauder.
Zachary is survived by sister, Virginia Sauder; his brother, Bernell Sauder; paternal grandparents, Leon and Louella Sauder; maternal grandparents, Andrew and Susie Martin; paternal great-grandmothers, Lizzie Sauder and Anna Burkholder; and maternal great-grandparents, Harvey and Nora Martin and Mervin and Laura Martin.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30amET Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at the Cedar Hill Church. Burial will follow in the Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Anna Schlabach, 80, of LaGrange, (district: 9), died at 4:33 pm on Tuesday, February 14 [2023] at her residence. She was born on April 8, 1942, in LaGrange County, to Tobias U. and Lizzie Ann (Miller) Miller. On December 5, 1963, in LaGrange, she married Raymond Schlabach, he survives.
Survivors in addition to her husband are caregivers, a nephew, LaVern and Mattie Yoder of LaGrange; four sisters, Mattie (Abe) Mast of Ridgeway, OH, Elizabeth Hochstetler, Mary (Ervin) Miller, Wilma (Eli) Miller all of LaGrange; brother, Elmer (Anna Ruth) Miller of Goshen; three brothers-in-law, Daniel Bontrager, Clarence Miller both of LaGrange, Ora Beechy of Brown City, MI.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Katie (Alvin) Gingerich, Ida Bontrager, Ella Miller, Edna Beechy; two brothers-in-law, Elmer Yoder, Harley Hochstetler.
Anna was a homemaker and a member of the Old Order Amish Church.
Visitation will be after 2:00 pm on Wednesday, February 15 and all-day Thursday, February 16 at the LaVern Yoder residence, 5420 W. 100 S., LaGrange. Funeral services will be at 9:30 am on Friday, February 17 at the David Yoder residence, 5375 W. 100 S., LaGrange. Services will be conducted by Bishop Larry Hochstetler and the home ministers. Schlabach, John J.
August 5, 1936 - September 18, 2023
John J. Schlabach 87, of 6848 TR 630, Millersburg, passed away suddenly at his residence on Monday, September 18, 2023 after a period of declining health.
He was born on August 5, 1936 to the late John Y. and Mary L. (Yoder) Schlabach. On October 24, 1967 he married Mary J. Miller who preceded him in death on January 6, 2009. On August 13, 2013 he married Amanda E. Miller and she survives.
John was the former owner of Schlabach’s Engine Repair and also worked as a farmer and seed salesman. He was a member of the Old Order Amish Church.
In addition to his second wife Amanda he is survived by his children, John (Barbara) Schlabach of Berlin, Roy (Laura) Schlabach of Fredericksburg, Katie Ann (Allen) Raber of Millersburg and Mary Ann Schlabach of the home; 10 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Verna (late Levi) Schlabach of Millersburg.
In addition to his parents and his first wife Mary, he was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Levi Schlabach, Albert (Katie) Schlabach, Fannie Schlabach, Noah Schlabach and Ella (Atlee) Erb.
Funeral services will be held at the home on Thursday, September 21, at 9:00 AM with Bishop Alvin Beachy officiating. Burial will follow in the Troyer Cemetery. Friends may call at the home after 2 PM on Tuesday and any time on Wednesday.

Jonathan R. Schlabach, 19, of Shipshewana, (district: 49-1), died at 5:37 pm, on Wednesday, March 8 [2023] at his residence. He was born on June 5, 2003, in Topeka, to Richard R. and LeAnna (Yoder) Schlabach.
Surviving in addition to his parents are four brothers, Matthew (Elizabeth) Schlabach of White Pigeon, MI, Dennis Schlabach of Sturgis, MI, Daniel Schlabach, Benjamin Schlabach both of Shipshewana; three sisters, Dorcas (Derek) Miller of Goshen, Nora (Calvin) Bontrager of Shipshewana, Carrie (Kenny) Hershberger of Middlebury; five nieces and seven nephews; grandparents, Alvin J. and Miriam Yoder of Middlebury.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Roman E. and Katie Schlabach.
Jonathan worked for Flying Eagle Concrete and was a member of the Old Order Amish Church.
Visitation will be after 2:00 pm on Friday, March 10 and all-day Saturday, March 11 at the family residence, 7885 W. 675 N., Shipshewana. Funeral services will be at 9:30 am on Sunday, March 12 at the John Yoder residence, 7335 W. 650 N., Shipshewana. Services will be conducted by Bishop Joe Bontrager and the home ministers. April 8, 1946 - December 8, 2023
Mary Etta (Bontrager) Schlabach 77 of Arthur, Illinois passed away at 6:45 PM on Friday, December 8, 2023 at her residence.
Funeral services will be held at 9:00 A.M. on Tuesday, December 12, 2023 at the HCK West Building, Arthur. Bishop Philip Schrock will officiate. Burial will be in the Yoder Cemetery in rural Arthur. Visitation will be held any time after 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, December 10, 2023, and after 10:00 A.M. on Monday, December 11, 2023, at the HCK West Building. The Edwards Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
Mary Etta was born on April 8, 1946 in Wolcottville, IN. She was a daughter of Amos W. and Wilma Mable (Miller) Bontrager. She married Harley F. Schlabach on December 16, 1969 in Wolcottville, IN.
She is survived by her husband Harley Schlabach of Arthur, IL, seven children, Wilma Marie Miller and her husband Wilbur of Rodney, MI, Glen Ray Schlabach and his wife Rosalyn of Campbell Hill, IL, William H. Schlabach and his wife Elizabeth of Arthur, IL, Leona Mast and her husband Joni of Humboldt, IL, Loretta H. Jess and her husband Richard of Ava, IL, Rosanna H. Schlabach of Arthur, IL and Rachel H. Chupp and her husband Samuel of Utica, PA, 44 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren; seven siblings, Martha Sue Hochstetler and her husband Norman of Charlotte, MI, Orpha Marie Eash and her husband Levi of Wawaka, IN, Orla Bontrager and his wife Sadie (Lambright) of Rome City, IN, William Bontrager and his wife Barbara (Miller) of Topeka, IN, Wilbur Bontrager and his wife Norma (Hostetler) of Kingston, WI, Wilma Mae and her husband Paul Lambright of Ligonier, IN, and Vernon Bontrager and his wife Sara (Yoder) of Kingston, WI; one sister-in-law, Betty (Lambright) Bontrager of Wolcottville, IN.
Mary Etta was preceded in death by her parents, Amos and Wilma Bontrager, and one brother, Marvin Bontrager.
Mary Etta was a member of the Old Order Amish Church.
Schlabach, Ray A. (Dr.)
January 5 1940 - December 10, 2023
Dr. Roy A. Schlabach, 83, died on Sunday, December 10, 2023, at Majora Lane in Millersburg after an extended decline.
Roy was born on January 5, 1940, to Atlee D. and Ada D. (Miller) Schlabach in Charm, Ohio. He married Marilyn Mast on August 19, 1966, in Smithville, Ohio.
Roy was valedictorian of the last class to graduate from Berlin High School. He attended Goshen College and The Ohio State University, where he received a Doctor of Optometry degree. He completed additional optometric training at the University of Houston.
Roy practiced optometry in Millersburg for 50 years. He served on the Board of Directors of the Ohio Optometric Association, including one term as president.
In addition to wife Marilyn of Millersburg, he is survived by daughters Renee (Scott Goodland) of Duluth, Minnesota, and Rachelle (Keith) Lyndaker Schlabach, of Millersburg, and grandchildren Mario Lyndaker of Washington, D.C. and Floarea-Alina Lyndaker of Millersburg. He is also survived by siblings Dorothy (John J.) Troyer and Ervin (Lois) Schlabach, brother-in-law Melvin M. Raber, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by sister Fannie Raber.
Roy loved to read, travel, and go to professional meetings. He was a member of Walnut Creek Mennonite Church.
The funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday, December 15th at Walnut Creek Mennonite Church. Burial will take place at the Church Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, December 14th from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., at Alexander Funeral Home in Millersburg and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.

Susie M. Schlabach, 83, of Goshen, (district: 66-1), died at 2:40 am, on Sunday, August 6, [2023] at her residence. She was born on March 11, 1940, in Topeka, to Martin and Emma (Bontrager) Yoder. On June 27, 1991, in Topeka, she married Jesse O. Schlabach, he died October 15, 2017.
Surviving are three stepdaughters, Martha (Amos) Yoder of WI, Wilma (Devon) Hochstetler of Middlebury, Ruth (Howard) Lambright of Goshen; 26 step grandchildren, 49 step great-grandchildren; sister, Katie Miller of Middlebury; sister-in-law, Viola Beachy of Goshen.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; half-brother, Elmer Yoder; four half-sisters, Amelia Yoder, Barbara Yoder, Amanda Christner, Ida Mae Christner; three half-brothers, Daniel Beachy, Levi Beechy, Joni Beachy; three step great-grandchildren.
Susie was a homemaker and a member of the Old Order Amish Church.
Visitation will be after 2:00 pm on Monday, August 7 and all-day Tuesday, August 8 at the Howard Lambright residence, 62308 CR 37, Goshen. Funeral services will be at 9:30 am on Wednesday, August 9 also at the Howard Lambright residence. Services will be conducted by the home ministers. Burial will be in Nisley Cemetery, Goshen.
Schlabach, Susie Mast
March 14, 1934 - April 30, 2023
Susie Schlabach, 89, of Berlin, passed away on Sunday, April 30, 2023 at Majora Lane Care Center in Millersburg following a short period of declining health. She was born in Millersburg on March 14, 1934 to the late Daniel A. and Bertha Mae (Miller) Mast and married Abe Schlabach on February 21, 1958 and celebrated 65 years together this year. He survives.
Susie worked in the bakery at Der Dutchman in Walnut Creek for 30 years. She attended Moorehead Mennonite Church at Shreve. She was a very good seamstress, crocheter and cook, enjoyed working in both her flower and vegetable garden and feeding the birds. She had a love for babies and children of all ages.
In addition to her husband Abe, she is survived by her 5 daughters, Norma (Delbert) Schlabach of Berlin, Kristine (Jerry) Raber of Millersburg, Kathleen (Wes) Kandel of Berlin and Cheryl Schlabach and Cynthia (Gary) Raber both of Sugarcreek; 8 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and her siblings, Eli (Clara) Mast of Mt. Eaton, Dan Jr. (Esta) Mast of Dundee, Ada Schlabach of Apple Creek, Ida Mast of Dalton, and Dorothy (Dave) Siegrist of Lancaster, PA.

Schmucker, Homer Eugene
October 14, 1939 - April 18, 2023
Homer Eugene Schmucker, age 83, of Milford, passed away at 2:04 a.m., Tuesday, April 18, [2023] at Elkhart General Hospital after a short illness. He was born October 14, 1939 in Nappanee, IN to Oscar and Kate (Schmucker) Schmucker. On June 30, 1961, he married Karen Erb at Benton Mennonite Church. Homer was a lifetime area resident and was a committed, longtime member at North Main Street Mennonite Church in Indiana, serving on the church council and teaching adult Sunday school classes.
Homer was a teller of wild stories, stirrer of pots, mischief maker, a touch cantankerous, lover of honky tonk music and road trips, a businessman till the end, fiercely proud and supportive of his family, super fan of wrastling, hunter of morrell mushrooms, and possesser of the loudest laugh you've ever heard. Homer loved to talk on the phone, engage in hearty debates, and had an outrageous sense of humor.
Homer E. Schmucker, as he liked to sign anything remotely official, was a proud business owner until his retirement. His business, Gary’s Mobile Home Sales was part of a fast-paced industry. It was not only the source of joy and fulfillment for him but he also fostered a family atmosphere. He had a particular compassion for the underdog and was quick to extend second and third chances. He was generous to a fault and his Christmas parties, featuring dirty bingo and door prizes for his employees, was a lavish affair.
Gary’s was truly a family affair. Each of his children and their partners was eventually employed at Gary’s, and the office was frequently inhabited by the grandchildren. While Homer forbade them from touching any computers, they built tree forts outside and spent time harassing him in his office with the notoriously messy desk.
Homer enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his family. He was known to take them on wild shopping sprees to Sam’s Club, mostly for office supplies but also the stray gallon of pickles, and provided opportunities for family vacations together. Homer not only held a deep love for his children and grandchildren but also for his siblings and extended family, desiring unity and deep connection – a love that would transcend differences.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 61 years, Karen Schmucker, Milford; children, Rod (Norma) Schmucker, Los Fresno, TX, Tim Schmucker (special friend Marci), Albion, IN, Lorraine (Kevin d 2019) Cole, Lyons, IL, Lisa (Brian) Showalter, Tucson, AZ, Nancy Schmucker, Etna Green, IN; 8 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; siblings, Raymond Schmucker, Farmville, VA; Esther Miller, Millersburg, IN, Oscar (Laura) Schmucker, Jr, Nappanee, IN, Vera (Ola) Yoder, Nappanee, IN; Lamar (Lois) Schmucker, Ligonier, IN and Gary (Susan) Schmucker, Nappanee, IN. He was preceded in death by sisters, Frieda Stutzman, Clara Schmucker, Velma Miller and infant sister, Margaret Schmucker.

Levi Schmucker, 89, died on Saturday, April 15, [2023] at 4:57 a.m. He was born on November 14, 1933, to Emmon and Salina. On December 22, 1956, he married Millie Jones.
Levi loved the Lord and attended Clinton Frame Church. He spent many years as an elder and Sunday school teacher. He was in 1W service in Westville. Levi began working in the RV industry starting at StarCraft for 19 years. He spent 3 years at Blue Fin Industries and finished his last 19 years at Jayco. He spent many retirement years mowing and doing lawn care services. Levi loved working with wood and created many unique artwork pieces that are cherished by many.
He is survived by his wife Millie and his children Rodney (Judy), Rhonda Florian, and Ronald (Laura); 11 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren; and a sister Mahalah (John) Troyer.
He was proceeded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Jeffrey Florian; four brothers, Monroe, Freeman, Harvey, and Marvin; four sisters, Edna, Melinda, Jemima, and Salina.

Schmucker, Tony "Bud"
August 30, 1928 - February 17, 2023
Tony “Bud” Schmucker, age 94 of Nappanee, IN, died at 4:10 am on Friday, February 17, 2023 at Warsaw Meadows Care Center, Warsaw, IN. He was born on August 30, 1928 in Nappanee to Daniel and Florence (Basinger) Schmucker. Bud attended the Bucknell Country School and lived his entire life in the Nappanee area. On December 20, 1946 Bud married Eleanor Stout in Nappanee. She preceded him in death on October 6, 2017.
Bud worked for many years at Comfo Sleep in Wakarusa before retiring from Holiday Rambler. Bud was a member of the Nappanee First Mennonite Church and worked for many years as the church’s groundskeeper. He was active in helping lead the Nappanee Neighborhood Watch program. Bud enjoyed wintering with Eleanor for many years in Florida. He worked to help restore a red Willy’s Jeep and he enjoyed driving it in local parades. Bud loved supporting his wife Eleanor as she traveled and shared her yodeling talents; he loved listening to her yodel. Most of all, Bud loved his family.
Surviving are 3 children: Alan (Romona) Schmucker of Nappanee, Connie (Kai) McLaughlin of Indianapolis, and Tod (Laurie) Schmucker of Nappanee; 7 grandchildren: Tony (Jen) Schmucker, Nathan Schmucker, Tonya (Eddie) Logan, Tina (Jesse) Wilson, Chad Schmucker, Grace Schmucker, and Gabe Schmucker; 7 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; and a sister, Arlene Dinehart of Mishawaka, IN.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and 4 siblings: Milo Schmucker, Chancey Schmucker, Herb Schmucker, and Julia May Brewer.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 21, 2023 from 4-8 pm and on Wednesday morning from 10-11 am, both at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee. A funeral service will begin Wednesday morning at 11am, also at the funeral home. Pastor Cami Coffin will officiate and burial will take place at South Union Cemetery, Nappanee. Schrock, Earl L.

Earl L. Schrock, 92, of Harrisonburg departed this Earth for his Heavenly home on April 17, 2023.
Earl was born on December 17th, 1930, in Hutchinson KS to the late Samuel & Katie Schrock. Earl was a graduate of Eastern Mennonite College. He worked for 22 years as the CEO of Virginia Mennonite Home. He then drove tractor trailer for IDM Trucking for 27 years. He drove over 1.6 million miles until he fully retired at age 85.
Earl was a dedicated member of Weaver’s Mennonite Church in Harrisonburg, where he enjoyed teaching Sunday School and singing in the choir at special events. Earl’s beautiful baritone voice could be heard in numerous Church and family functions, and he especially enjoyed singing with his brothers.
Earl married his first wife, Janette Berkey, who passed away April 13, 1981. On December 18, 1982, Earl married Ruth Shank, who survives.
In addition to his wife, Earl is survived by his children, Janine Ketner, Bryan Schrock (Lori), Jerilyn Schrock, and Kimberly Schrock Armentrout. Grandchildren Justin Rogers (Belle), Katie Rogers, Jonathan Schrock (Emma, fiancé). Also surviving are siblings Gene Schrock (Carol), Doris Yoder, and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members.
Earl was preceded in death by his siblings: Leroy, Susie Ellen, Allen, and Herman Schrock.
A memorial service will be held at Weaver’s Mennonite Church Shady Oak on Sunday April 23 at 3:00pm. The family will receive people starting at 2pm. A reception will follow the service.
A private burial will be held at Weaver’s Mennonite Church Cemetery.

Edward was born on October 30, 1931 in Arthur, Illinois, a son of Christian A. and Annie D. (Yoder) Schrock. He married Clara J. Chupp on October 3, 1957 in Arthur, Illinois.

Schrock of Arthur, IL; two step-sisters-in-law, Marie Schrock of Ohio and Frances Schrock of Arthur, IL, and one step-brother-in-law, Andy Schrock of Florida.

Emma H. Schrock, 84, of Goshen (district: 71), died at 8:45 pm, on Friday, January 20 [2023] at her residence. She was born on October 10, 1938, in Monroe, IN, to Noah E. and Mary (Schwartz) Schwartz. On November 29, 1962, in Middlebury, she married Ernest S. Schrock, he died August 20, 2016.
Surviving are daughter, Debra E. (Levi) Stutzman of Goshen; three grandchildren, Aaron Dale Stutzman, Eileen Jo (Nate) Lehman, Janay Rose (Gerald) Yoder; four great-grandchildren, Logan Ray Lehman, Lucas Lee Lehman, Seth Kylan Lehman, Emma Rose Yoder; two sisters, Elizabeth (Larry) Miller of Millersburg, Edith (Eli) Miller of Nappanee; two sisters-in-law, Lydiann Schwartz of Kingston, WI, Anna Schwartz of Middlebury; brother-in-law, Mose Yoder of Shipshewana.

Emma was a homemaker and a member of the Old Order Amish Church.

Schrock, Lester Tobias
June 2, 1932 - April 15, 2023
Lester Tobias Schrock, of Macon Mississippi, went to his eternal home on April 15, [2023] at his home at Macon.
Lester was born in Goshen, Indiana on June 2, 1932, to Ezra and Clara Schrock.
He married Louise Knepp on December 12, 1954.
During the early years of their marriage the couple made their home in Goshen, Indiana where he was employed at the Star Tank Boat Company.
In 1963, they moved to Macon, Miss. where they joined in partnership with his father and brother-in law, Edwin Knepp, in the Macon Ready Mix Concrete Company. Lester remained co-owner in the concrete business until his retirement in 1998.
During his retirement, Lester and Louise volunteered with the Mennonite Disaster Service (MDS) with relief services and cleanup work following natural disasters in areas stretching from West Virginia to south Florida to Oklahoma.
They traveled a lot and learned to know and befriend many people throughout their retirement years.
Lester gave his heart to the Lord at a young age and was a member of the Magnolia Conservative Mennonite Church at Macon until his death.
Lester is survived by his wife of 68 years, Louise Schrock; four sons, Kenneth (Miriam) Schrock of Taylorsville, MS, James (Margaret) Schrock of Starkville, MS, Mark (Marie) Schrock of Macon, MS and Tom (Brenda) Schrock of Macon, MS. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren and twenty-three great -grandchildren. Four brothers also survive him, Ivan Schrock of Goshen, IN, Calvin Schrock of Atmore, AL., Galen Schrock of Macon, MS and Titus Schrock of Camilla, GA., two sisters-in-law, Shirley Schrock of Traverse City, MI and Rachel Schrock of Dayton, VA and one brother-in-law, Austin Collins of Fredericksburg, MD.
Schrock, Miriam Ellen Hochstetler Graber
March 30, 1929 - April 24, 2023
Miriam Ellen Graber Schrock, of Goshen, Indiana passed away at home on April 24, 2023, at the age of 94. A funeral service will be held Saturday, April 29 at 11 AM at East Goshen Mennonite Church, 2019 E. Lincoln Ave, Goshen, IN 46528. Pastor Naomi Yoder and Pastor Merle Hostetler will officiate.
Friends are invited to visit with the family on Friday from 4 - 8 PM at the church, and on Saturday before the service from 9-11 AM. Burial will follow after a luncheon at 2 PM at Violett Cemetery.
Miriam was born on March 30, 1929, in Goshen, Indiana to Elam and Eliza (Bender) Hochstetler. She was baptized at the age of 16. As a teenager, influenced by her father and grandfather Samuel, she became involved in the Amish “mission movement” of the 1950s. She would often go to the Hope Mission Soup Kitchen in South Bend with her father.
She also volunteered at Brook Lane Farms, a mental health hospital, in Hagerstown, MD and later with Northern Lights Mission in Loman, MN where she started a relationship with Harvey Graber. Harvey was also involved in the same mission movement and the two were married on Dec. 21, 1952. They spent five years in Red Lake, Ontario working with the Ojibwe Tribe, providing day school for the Native children who were not allowed to study at the public school. It was also in Red Lake where she met Orie and Ruth Schrock and the two growing families became deeply connected.
Miriam became a pastor’s wife, when Harvey, while studying at Goshen Biblical Seminary, began serving as pastor at Maple Grove Mennonite Church in Topeka, IN. After five years as a pastor, her husband came home one day offering the choice to go abroad as missionaries to either Africa or Brazil. Miriam and Harvey, with five children aged 6-12 years, ultimately spent the next ten years in Brazil, living and serving in Ribeirão Preto in São Paulo state under Mennonite Board of Missions.
Their missionary work ended early when Harvey was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. They returned to Goshen where Miriam cared for him for a year until his death in 1978. As a widow at the age of 49, she worked for two years at Wieland Design and then worked for over twenty years as a CNA at Greencroft Health Care. Orie Schrock and Miriam reconnected after his wife Ruth passed away and were married on Oct. 12, 2002. They had 19 happy years together.
Miriam was a world traveler, having been to Mexico, Switzerland, Dominican Republic, Senegal, Zambia and Russia, mainly supporting family or church missions. She was a spiritual mother to many and known as Grandma Graber by countless non-blood relatives, especially in her neighborhood. Over the years, her home was always open for extended periods to anyone in need. She modeled in our family and community Jesus’ Way of Love, as an alternative to Empire. She had continued her support and connections with the Vila Virginia and Vida Nova churches in Brazil with whom she still had regular communication. Miriam took great pride in her beautiful garden and was still seen weeding her flower beds last summer. She was an avid quilter, making hundreds of comforters for MCC over the course of her life. An incredibly compassionate person with a servant heart, Miriam recently encouraged us at her 94th birthday party to “do what’s right, keep loving each other and stay faithful until the end.”
Miriam leaves behind her children, John (Crissie Musselman) of Goshen, IN, Merlin of Goshen, IN, Millard (Sheila Koch) of Goshen, IN, Carol (Bill Frisbie) of Goshen, IN and Galen (Ruth Brenneman) of Wellman, IA. Also, her stepchildren Alan (Pat Keener) of Webster, FL, Anna (Dan Pipek) of Staples, MN, Susan (Curt Martin) of Pillager, MN, and Marlin (Cathy Cole) of Waverly, NY.
She deeply loved her fourteen grandchildren, ten step-grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, nine step-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers Daniel (Arianne) Hochstetler, Noah (Loretta) Hochstetler , Joseph (Patricia) Hochstetler, sister Marietta (Jonathon) Stoltzfus, sisters-in-law Clara and Frances.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Harvey and Orie, brothers Laban, Samuel and Walter, sisters Esther and Rhoda, granddaughter Joyce Graber and great-grandson Joshua Angel.

Norman Wayne Schrock, 68, of Resaca, Georgia went home to be with the Lord, August 10, 2023, after a nine month battle with lymphoma.
He was born September 3, 1954, in Goshen, IN to the late Raymond and Edna (Eash) Schrock. He married Kathleen (Rhodes), daughter of the late Luke and Miriam (Good) Rhodes on June 26, 1976.
He was a member of the Meadow View Mennonite Church in Resaca, Georgia and served as a minister for thirty-eight years.
Along with his wife, left to mourn his passing are their five children, Krystal (Matthew) Shirk of Paquip, Guatemala, Karla (Steve) Nisly of Humbolt, NE, Janelle (Dennis) Miller of Rozet, WY, Kevin (Kayla) Schrock of Thurman, OH, Judith Schrock of Leesburg, OH, and seventeen grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother and three sisters, Ruth (Jonas) Stoltzfus of Greenville, SC, Marvin (Hannah) Schrock of Jesup, GA, Marti (Ben) Surrency of Jesup, GA, Carolyn (Jason) Miller of Cambridge, OH.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Tyler (Dennis & Janelle) Miller.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, from 1:00 PM-3:00 PM and 5:00 PM-7:00 PM at Faith Baptist Camp in Resaca, GA.
Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at 10:00 AM from Faith Baptist Camp. Burial will follow in Meadow View Mennonite Cemetery.

Olen Jay Schrock, 64, of Elnora, Indiana, passed away peacefully with family by his side, on Saturday, June 24, 2023, at his residence. He was born on January 15, 1959, in Washington to Jonas N. and Anna Viola (Yoder) Schrock. Olen married his loving wife, Juanita Mae (Kropf) Schrock on October 3, 1980.
Olen loved God and was a member of the Mt. Joy Mennonite Church. He was a brick mason by trade. Olen enjoyed singing and shared his love of music with church and family. He loved spending time with family, especially his grandchildren.
Family left to cherish the memories of Olen include: his wife Juanita, their children; Ruth Schrock of Harrisonburg, VA, Carolyn Schrock of Halsey, OR, Leland (Natalia) Schrock of Elida, OH, Robert (Laura) Schrock of Bloomfield, Deloris (Anthony) Smith of Elida, OH, and 12 grandchildren. Also surviving are his sisters, Mary Esther of Elnora, and Arlene (Luke) Rhodes of Newberry, his brothers, Thomas (Fae) Schrock of Elnora, Marvin (Pam) Schrock of Sterling, AK; sister-in-law, Fan Schrock of Loogootee, and 19 nieces and nephews.
Olen was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother Stephen Schrock.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, June 28, 2023, at the Simon J. Graber Building, with James Yoder officiating. Visitation times are 2:00 – 4:00 PM and 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Monday, June 26, and 2:00 – 4:00 PM and 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Tuesday, June 27. Olen will be laid to rest in Mt. Joy Cemetery in Raglesville.

Ryan Christopher Schrock 49, Indianapolis, Indiana, formerly of Arthur, Illinois passed away on July 25, 2023 surrounded by his family at his sister's residence in Indiana.

Ryan was born on February 19, 1974 in Decatur, Illinois. The son of Wilmer A. and Rebecca Marie J (Miller) Schrock.
Ryan is survived by his mother, Marie Schrock of Arthur, IL, his sister DeeAnne Sawin and her husband Jason of Greenwood, two nieces, Caitlin and Kristin Sawin, of Indianapolis, IL; several aunts and uncles; from his dad’s side of the family, Elmer Schrock and his wife Voleta of Arthur, IL, Mary Helmuth and her husband Milton of Hoschton, GA, Ada Schrock of Bemidji, MN and Margaret Schrock of Tavares, FL; from his mom’s side of the family, John Miller of Gresham, OR, Mel Miller and his wife Anna of Cincinnati, OH, Rosanna Breedlove of Arthur, IL, Betty Wolstenholm and her husband Rex of Nolensville, TN, Laura Yutzy of Chesterville, IL; Levi Miller and his wife Jeanie of Neoga, IL; Loni Sparks and her husband Ron of Nashville, TN; and David Miller and his wife Karen of Arthur, IL; Ryan also leaves numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Wilmer Schrock. his grandparents Abe and Elizabeth (Stutzman) Schrock, and Jonas and Katherine (Gingerich) Miller, uncles, Ira J. Miller, Dave Schrock, Omer Schrock, Dave Breedlove and Roger Yutzy, his aunt Cleora Schrock, and two cousins, Tony Bontrager and Owen Golding.
Ryan's educational journey began with his graduation from Arthur High School in 1992. Following that, he obtained his associate degree from Hesston Mennonite College in Hesston, KS in 1994. He took classes at ITT Technical Institute in Indianapolis, IN. His thirst for knowledge led him to earn his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Indiana University in 2007.
Ryan had a fulfilling career that spanned over various industries. He worked for Verizon, Mediacom, and Apple, prior to landing what he thought was his dream job at Charles Schwab. Ryan soon realized that office work was not for him, he was more of a roll up your sleeve, problem solving kind of guy. He thoroughly loved his job as a hands-on project coordinator at McComb Window and Door Company of Indianapolis.
Music played a significant role in Ryan’s life from an early age. He played in band all through High School. as he found joy being a part of the marching band at Illinois State University and performing in Jazz Concerts. His passion for music took him to Europe with the Hesston Choir.
In his leisure time, Ryan cherished moments spent with his friends and cousins and especially his nieces.
Ryan's proudest accomplishments were marked by his musical achievements and the experiences that accompanied them. He leaves behind a legacy of dedication and talent that will forever be treasured by those who knew and loved him.

Edna Irene Schwartz, 82, of Sturgis, MI, died at 2:10 pm on Friday, November 10, [2023] at The Sparrow House, Sturgis, MI. She was born on March 31, 1941, in Traverse City, MI, to Daniel and Fannie (Kauffman) Bontrager. On June 21, 1959, at Locust Grove Mennonite Church, Findley, MI, she married Chris Schwartz, he survives.
Survivors in addition to her husband are daughter, Janice (Martin) Polo of Tampa, FL; three sons, Bruce Schwartz of Bristol, Wayne (Michelle) Schwartz of Cape Coral, FL, Rick (Jennifer) Schwartz of Nappanee; 11 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; brother, Dan (Brenda) Bontrager of Middlebury; sister-in-law, Sue Bontrager of White Pigeon, MI; brother-in-law, Dale Mast of Batesville, AR.
She was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers, LeRoy, Erie, Willis, Ora, Omer, and Theodore Bontrager; two sisters, Katie Albrecht and Velma Mast.
Edna was a homemaker and a babysitter prior to working at McDonald's in Sturgis, MI for 19 years, where she was the manager for 10 years. She was also a seamstress, cake decorator and helped her husband grout bathrooms for his business. Edna went back to school and graduated high school in 1979, the same year as her oldest son Bruce. She was currently a member of Clinton Frame Church and previously a longtime member of Locust Grove Mennonite Church. Edna sang in the choir at both churches for a total of 45 years. She also was a Sunday School and Bible School teacher at Locust Grove Mennonite Church.
Visitation will be from 2:00 - 4:00 pm and 5:00 - 7:00 pm on Thursday, November 16 at Clinton Frame Church, 63846 CR 35 Goshen. There will be a celebration of life service at 1:00 pm on Friday, November 17 also at Clinton Frame Church. Services will be conducted by Pastor Russell Jensen. Burial will be in Clinton Frame Cemetery, Goshen. Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer's Association.

Lydia Faith Schwartz was stillborn on Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at Lutheran Kosciusko Hospital, Warsaw, IN. She was the daughter of Steven and Carolyn (Schwartz) Schwartz.
She is survived by her parents; brothers, Matthew James Schwartz, Christopher Jon Schwartz, Edwin Lee Schwartz all at home; paternal grandparents, Victor and Ruth Ann (Schwartz) Schwartz, Etna Green; maternal grandparents, Arden and Irma (Hochstetler) Schwartz, Etna Green; 8 cousins; 19 aunts and uncles; paternal great grandparents, Melvin & Rebecca Schwartz, Geneva, IN and Kathryn Schwartz, Etna Green; maternal great grandparents, Lamar and Elizabeth Hochstetler, Nappanee and Clara Schwartz, Etna Green.

Marlan Schwartz, age 21, of Etna Green, IN, passed away as the result of a Bicycle/Truck accident in Leesburg at 8:03 p.m., Monday, August 7, 2023. He was born July 28, 2002 in Geneva, IN to Melvin and Mary (Hilty) Schwartz. He was a member of the Old Order Amish Church. Marlan had worked for Kuhn’s Storage Barns. He was a lifetime area resident.

Emma B. Seibel, age 79, of 211 Turtle Hill Road, Leola, PA passed away peacefully at her home on January 23, 2023, after battling cancer for several years.
She was born September 1, 1943 in Brecknock Township to the late Samuel and Annie (Burkholder) Martin.
Emma was married to David Seibel on June 3, 1995. David preceded her in death on July 26, 2012, after 17 years of marriage.
Emma was a member at Pleasant Valley Mennonite Church (Mid-Atlantic Fellowship).
She owned Martin's Fabrics for a number of years.
She is survived by one sister, Lizzie, wife of Amos H. Stauffer of Stevens, PA; four brothers, Henry Martin of Elkton, KY; Sam Martin married Anne Martin of Shelby, NC; Lloyd Martin, New Holland, PA; John Martin of Narvon, PA; a sister-in-law, Ella Mae Martin; two brothers-in-law, David Zimmerman, Ephrata, PA, and Ernest Shirk, Thorp, WI; 12 nieces, and 15 nephews.
She is also survived by six step-children, D. Lamar (Janet) Seibel of Vineland, NJ; Marilyn (Frank) Martin of Guatemala; Glenn (Doreen) Seibel of Canon City, CO; Eileen (Lamar) Garmen of Stevens, PA; Jere Seibel of Peyton, CO; Mary Kay (Glen) Fox of Reinholds, PA; 33 step-grandchildren; 164 step great-grandchildren, and 31 step-great-great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death are two sisters, Katie Zimmerman and Anna Mae Shirk, and one brother, David Martin.

Melvin S. Sensenig, age 69 years, of Curtiss passed away Monday, February 13, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday February 20, 2023 at 9:30 a.m. at Clark View Mennonite Church in the Town of Longwood. Officiating will be Abner Oberholtzer, Jerry Brubaker, Randall Martin , Paul Wesley Oberholtzer and Elvin Hoover. Melvin was born on January 5, 1954 in Lancaster County, PA the son of Elam Z. and Alta H. (Shirk) Sensenig. He was united in marriage to Alma Hoover on April 10, 1975 in Pennsylvania. Melvin and Alma lived in Lancaster County, PA before moving to Wisconsin in 1978, where they farmed. Melvin’s occupation was farming and building silos. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. Nobody was a stranger to him. He was friendly, and always had a good story to tell. He liked playing with his grandchildren, who were his heart’s delight. Melvin also loved to go out to eat with his friends.
Melvin is survived by children: Leroy of Lancaster, PA, Landis (Rhoda), Elam Ray (Esther Mae), Darlene (Leon) Eberly, Vernon, and Louella, also a daughter in law, Margaret Sensenig all of Clark County; 32 grandchildren; siblings: Vera Mae (Leon) Martin, Irene (Ammon) Zimmerman, Minerva (Eli) Newswanger, Verna (Aaron) Nolt, and Alta Faye (Marvin) Martin.

Pauline M. Sensenig, 89, a resident of Fairmount Homes, passed away on Sunday, February 26, 2023. Born in New Holland, she was the daughter of the late Elmer M. and Lizzie R. Sauder Sensenig.
Pauline had been a certified nurse's aide for many years at Maple Farms and Fairmount Homes. She was a member of the Weaverland Anabaptist Faith Community where she had been a Sunday School teacher. She enjoyed voluntary service in Michigan and Red Lake, Onatrio, Canada. Her hobbies included traveling, flower gardening and camping.
Surviving are two sisters, Mabel Doggett of FL, and Vesta Ann Watt of Lancaster: and two brothers, Ray S. husband of Opel (Kirby) Sensenig of Strasburg, CO, and Gail S. husband of Carole (Felty) Sensenig of Ephrata. She was preceded in death by siblings, Esther Sensenig, Mary Martin, and Elmer Sensenig.

Vera Z. Sensenig, 93, of Quarryville, passed away peacefully at home on October 17, 2023. Born in New Holland, she was the daughter of the late Amos and Ada (Zimmerman) Nolt. She was the wife of the late Jeremiah O. Sensenig, with whom she shared sixty-eight years of marriage until the time of his passing on April 11, 2021.
She was a member of Fairmount Mennonite Church (Weaverland Conference) and supported her late husband in his leadership in the church for many years. She was a patient, loving mother and faithfully took care of her special son, Marlin. She enjoyed sewing and loved when her family came to visit her.
Vera is survived by 6 sons; Elmer husband of Annetta Sensenig, Leon husband of Lucy Sensenig, Jere, Jr. husband of Barb Sensenig all of Quarryville, Jason husband of Susan Sensenig of Mount Joy, James husband of Sandy Sensenig of Quarryville, and Marlin at home; 2 daughters, Ada Mae wife of Larry Newswanger of Parkesburg, and Vera Jane wife of Vernon Fox of Quarryville; a daughter-in-law, Sadie Sensenig of Kirkwood; 34 grandchildren, 91 great-grandchildren, a sister, Pauline (Landis) Weaver and sisters- in-law, Loretta (Aaron) Nolt and Minerva (Elmer) Nolt.

Edith D. Shanholt, 77, of Elkhart died Monday, April 24, 2023 at home surrounded by family.
She was born October 25, 1945 in Goshen to Vernon E. and Mary (Bontrager) Slabaugh.
On January 1, 1997 she married Jack Shanholt in Elkhart.
He survives along with her sons Jeffrey (Lisa) Bollman of Billings, Montana and Matthew (Bethany) Bollman of Mt. Vernon, Missouri; Jack's daughters, Tammy (Chris) Fardulis of Walkerton and Jennifer Underwood of Elkhart, four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two brothers, Gary (Deb) Slabaugh of Tucson, Arizona and Marlin (Betty) Slabaugh of Goshen.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Wilma and a brother, Alvin.
A graduate of Bethany Christian High School, Edith worked in the office of College Mennonite Church.
Private burial will be in Little Pine Cemetery, Goshen.

Ivan W. Shank of East Berlin, Penn., 17316, born Dec. 24, 1952, in Dayton, Rockingham County, Va., died Feb. 26, 2023, at the age of 70 years, 2 months, and 2 days. He was a member of the Churchtown Mennonite Church.
Ivan was a son of the late Mark H. and Mary C. (Gable) Shank and the husband of Rosella P. (Kropf) Shank.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by six sons, Paul of East Berlin, Pa., Wilbur (Judith) of Newville, Pa., Titus (Janelle) of Lebanon, Pa., Luke (Cindy) of East Berlin, Pa., Mark (Rosalyn) of Warrensburg, Mo., and Aaron of Elverson, Pa.; five daughters, Alta (Marcus) Burkholder of Newville, Pa., Regina of Mifflinburg, Pa., Martha (Merlin) Diller of Carlisle, Pa., Sara of Uxbridge, Mass., and Anita of Manheim, Pa.; 24 grandchildren; and two sisters, Elsie and Rhoda.
His funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 4, 2023, at the Mountain View Mennonite Church, 720 Burnt House Road, Carlisle, PA 17015. Interment will follow in the Churchtown Mennonite Church Cemetery. His viewing will be Friday from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. and again from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the church.

August 14, 1929 - March 22, 2023
Orval Miller Shank, a resident of Harrisonburg, Va., passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2023. He was 93 years, 7 months, and 7 days old.
Orval was born on Aug. 14, 1929, in Rockingham County, and was the son of Wade Heatwole Shank and Vada Rebecca Swartz Shank. He grew up in the Waynesboro, Va., area and in Rockingham County.
Orval was a follower of Jesus since early in his life. He served others, notably as a leader for several decades at Elkton Mennonite Church with 14 of those years as a pastor. Orval and Dorothy served together in stewardship teaching ministry to Mennonite Church USA and additionally on two trips to Trinidad. Following this ministry Orval led in the area of stewardship planning in his church, Ridgeway Mennonite.
Orval was employed at Rockingham Construction Company for 37 years. He began as a bookkeeper and later was instrumental in the founding and managing of Special Fleet Service until his retirement in 1993. Both at work and in his daily life, Dad’s commitment to honesty and integrity were exemplary.
In retirement, Orval enjoyed woodworking, especially turning bowls on his lathe. Family and friends treasure these gifts made by his hands. On Sept. 30, 1949, he married Dorothy J. Yoder Shank, sharing 73 ½ years, who survives him. He is also survived by his sister, Evonne Shank Showalter; and three sons, David Shank (Cynthia), Richard Shank (Sharon), and Sheldon Shank (Lois).
He is survived by nine grandchildren: Joshua Shank (Sarah), Benjamin Shank (Nadine), Nathaniel Shank, Caleb Shank (Rana), Chip Alger (Michele), Kara Hill (Bill), Andre Shank (Kate), Joel Shank (Lisa), and Mary Shank (fiancé, Ben Cunningham); and 11 great-grandchildren, Micah Shank, Laela Shank, Cody Giampapa, Aiden Shank, Blake Alger, Jackson Alger, Jonah Hill, Bree Hill, Levi Shank, Isaac Shank, and Maddie Shank.
Orval was preceded in death by his parents, Wade and Vada Shank.

Shellenberger, W. Robert "Bob"

W. Robert "Bob" Shellenberger, 95, of Pleasant View Communities, Manheim, and formerly of Lititz, died on Sunday, October 22, 2023 at Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Thompsontown, he was the son of the late William H. and Joyce Shelley Shellenberger. Bob was the loving husband of Ruth E. Krall Shellenberger and they observed 73 years of marriage before her passing in 2019. Bob was a lifelong member of Erisman Mennonite Church, Manheim, where he served alongside his wife on the board of trustees, served as church treasurer, helped with bulletins and served as youth advisors. He owned and operated his family farm in Rapho Township with the help of his wife for over 40 years and also worked for Rapho Township and served as Township Supervisor for 26 years. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, spending time outdoors, snowmobiling, playing cards and traveling.
Surviving are three sons: Dale K. husband of Patricia J. Bare Shellenberger, Bird-In-Hand, Dennis C. husband of Karen Hershey Shellenberger, Manheim, Daryl L. Shellenberger, Lancaster, three daughters: Barbara A. wife of J. Elvin Huber, Susan E. wife of Jay Smoker, Diane L. Stohler, all of Manheim, thirteen grandchildren, and sixteen great grandchildren. Preceding him in death are four children, Mildred A., Robert E., Ronald K., Dean A. Shellenberger, and two brothers, Marlin C. and Shelley R. Shellenberger.

Shenk, Almeda J. Myer
September 10, 1934 - October 6, 2023
Almeda J. Shenk, 89 of Landis Homes passed away Friday evening, October 6, 2023 at Hospice & Community Care, Mount Joy. Born in Bird in Hand on September 10, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Willard and Ruth Esbenshade Myer. Almeda was the wife of Mahlon H. Shenk who preceded her in death on September 17, 2020.
Almeda was a member of River Corner Mennonite Church, Conestoga for many years. She supported her husband for over 30 years while he served as an ordained deacon for River Corner Mennonite Church. She enjoyed hosting children thru the Fresh Air Program. Almeda enjoyed volunteering, for many years on the board of the Main Street Closet and later at Landis Homes. She was a hardworking, helpful lady who enjoyed serving others.
Almeda will be missed by her daughter, Beverly A., wife of Jeffrey Hummel of Fleetwood and her sons, David E., husband of Maryanne Shenk of New Providence, Ronald L., husband of Cynthia Shenk of Mountville and J. Edward, husband of Christine Shenk of Lancaster. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren: 20 great-grandchildren and her brothers, Donald, husband of Blanche Myer of Lancaster and Wilmer, husband of Martha Myer of McAllisterville. Almeda was preceded in death by her brother, Dale Myer and her granddaughter, Melissa Shenk.

Shenk, Charles E.
December 17, 1931 - May 2, 2023
Charles E. Shenk, 91, Goshen, formerly of Scottdale, Pennsylvania, passed away early May 2, 2023. He was born December 17, 1931, to Elam and Rhoda (Charles) Shenk in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
He married Marian H. Martin on New Years Day, 1952. She preceded him in death November 22, 2015. Charles and Marian had three children: Sharon (Doug) Risser of Goshen, Jim (Rachel Shank) Shenk of Goshen, and Jerry (Audra Sprunger) Shenk of Scottdale, Pennsylvania. Charles and Marian enjoyed five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Charles is survived by sisters Alma (E. J.) Albrecht of Forest Grove, Oregon and Dorothy Shenk of Lititz, Pennsylvania. An older brother, John, died in March 2022.
As a child, Charles helped his parents with their small truck farm, growing, preparing, and delivering produce and poultry to local markets. Charles and his father farmed together until Elam’s untimely death at age 52. Charles farmed a couple more years until asked to work at the Provident Bookstore in Lancaster to manage the Christian Education Department. Soon an untimely death led him into leadership there. ln 1971 he was asked to manage all the Provident Bookstores throughout the US and Canada. This involved moving his family to Scottdale, Pennsylvania.
In 1975 Earl Brilhart asked Charles to manage Brilhart Hardware. In 1982 Charles bought Brilhart Hardware, selling stock to family and employees. Jerry and Audra moved from Goshen to Scottdale so Jerry could join his dad in the business. Charles and Marian also owned the thriving Scottdale Fabric and Quilt Shop with Marian providing the creative drive and Charles as business manager.
Charles retired from retail in 1996 ut his work did not end there. The church invited Charles to share his leadership and speaking skills at local Mennonite congregations. He was licensed and ordained by the Allegheny Conference where he served as overseer. He served as interim pastor at Kingview Mennonite and later pastor at Scottdale Mennonite. When those roles ended, he served as interim pastor at Blough Mennonite and Crossroads Mennonite in the Johnstown area.
As Charles needed help caring for Marian, they moved to Waterford Crossing, Goshen, in 2015. Upon moving to Goshen Charles and Marian made Eighth Street Mennonite Church their home church. In Goshen Charles enjoyed more time with his Goshen family. He participated in various men’s Bible studies and discussion groups. In later years Charles enjoyed Wellfield Botanic Gardens, Enzo’s Pizza, watching sports especially his Pirates and Steelers, listening to his son’s band, The Dawg, and watching his daughter’s garden grow on the edge of the property.
A memorial service is planned for Sunday, June 4 at, 2023 3:00 p.m. in the Meeting Room at Waterford Crossing, 1212 Waterford Circle, in Goshen.

Shenk, David W.
April 18, 1937 - Janurary 31, 2023
David W. Shenk, 85, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, January 31, at Landis Homes, Lititz, PA.
He married the love of his life, Grace Witmer, in 1959, with whom he shared 63 years of partnership. He was blessed by their children: Karen (Merv), Doris (Caleb), Jonathan (Cynthia), and Timothy (Christine). He loved his seven grandchildren: Chloe, Sofia, Gabriel, Dulce, Vanessa, Amani and Maia. David was predeceased by his parents, J. Clyde and Alta (Barge) Shenk, and his stepmother Miriam (Wenger) Shenk, a brother Joseph Shenk and a sister Anna Kathryn Eby. Two brothers remain, John Shenk and Daniel Shenk, sister-in-law Edith Shenk (Dennis) Kuhns, stepbrothers Daniel (Thelma) Wenger, Wilmer (Miriam) Wenger and stepsister Annetta (Harold) Miller. He was born in Shirati, Tanzania, son of missionaries.
David was a graduate of Lancaster Mennonite High School; Eastern Mennonite University with a B.S. in Social Studies and Theology; New York University with an M.A. in Social Studies Education and from New York University with a Ph.D. in Religious Studies Education and Anthropology.
David and Grace moved to New York City (1959) where David was director of the Mennonite Voluntary Service Center for two years, then on to Lancaster Mennonite High School (1961) where he was instructor in Bible and History for two years. In 1963 David, Grace and family moved to Somalia, where David served as Director of Education for ten years under Eastern Mennonite Missions. This is where David and Grace's ministry with the Islamic world began. Beginning in 1973, the family lived in Nairobi, Kenya for six years where David was a Kenyatta University College lecturer, a Nairobi Mennonite Church pastor, and an Islamic Ministries coordinator.
The family returned to the United States in 1979, where David served as Home Ministries director for seven years followed by International Ministries director for eleven years, both at Eastern Mennonite Missions. In 1998, David and Grace moved to Lithuania where David was Academic Dean at Lithuania Christian College, Klaipeda, for four years. In 2002 upon their return from Lithuania, David served as Global Islamic Ministries Consultant with Eastern Mennonite Missions for 19 years. He was author and/or co-author of 18 books. He was a member of Mountville Mennonite Church where he pastored from 1980-1986.
David was a visionary whose lifelong passions were dialogue, witness, peacemaking, and hospitality, all centered in Jesus. He had a welcoming smile that invited conversation. He enjoyed anthropological engagement with Muslim and Christian scholars from around the world and was committed to interreligious dialogue. He loved his family and arranged for his children and grandchildren to visit their roots in East Africa.
Those who experienced David's company saw a man always seeking his fullest life. Eager and enthusiastic for adventure, David loved safaris, stormy weather, morning jogs, and snorkeling with his family in the Indian Ocean. He embraced life with such confidence and faith, little could dissuade him from greeting every person after a crowded church service, from driving to preach during an impending blizzard, from exploring a hippo-filled lake with a faulty motorboat, from churning the homemade ice cream maker until it broke-yet again. His energy and curiosity kept him traveling the world until he was 80 years old-teaching and preaching with gusto. Even in his final days one could hear him mouthing sermons and speeches, his spirit always overflowing.
David's memorial service and visitation will be held at Mellinger Mennonite Church, 1916 Lincoln Highway East, Lancaster, PA 17602. The visitation will take place on Friday evening, February 17, from 6-8 p.m. and on Saturday morning, February 18, from 9:15-10:30 a.m. The memorial service will begin at 10:30 a.m. The service will also be live streamed on the Funeral Home website on the date of the service. There will be a private viewing and interment.

Shenk, Jean Kraybill
January 12, 1932 - February 19, 2023
Jean Kraybill Shenk, born January 12, 1932, peacefully departed for her eternal home on February 19, 2023 after more than a decade's battle with dementia, and a week of Covid-19. She was 91 years old.
Jean actively lived for others. Wherever she saw unfairness she tried to do her part to put things right. She served as an engaging, animated partner and wife of 70 years to her beloved husband Norman Groff Shenk in his diverse roles as pastor of Erisman Mennonite Church and executive work with Eastern Mennonite Missions, Mennonite Central Committee, and Mennonite Disaster Service. At his side, she hosted countless guests, traveled internationally, and networked widely with many people in support of these ministries. Over the years, she enriched the life and spirit of her beloved Erisman Mennonite congregation.
In the early 1980s, with strong support from Norman, she forged a new path to serve as a hospital chaplain in the Lancaster area, becoming the first woman among her peers in the Lancaster Conference Mennonite church to be formally trained in Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE), and be credentialed (1997) to serve in that role. She supported tens of thousands of families with Anabaptist connections in their time of need in area hospitals, writing pastoral reports on each visit.
Jean was born a preacher's daughter near Elizabethtown. Like her gregarious father, she never met a stranger. As a vivacious high schooler at Lancaster Mennonite School (1950), she sang alto in a women's quartet and caught the eye and gloved hand of her suitor (Norman) while skating on the Mill Pond. Weeks after their marriage in October, 1952, she served as a psychiatric aide at Fairfield State Hospital, Newtown, CT in 1-W alternate service. She sold the World Book Encyclopedia door to door in Rapho and Manheim Townships, interpreted culture and faith for thousands of tourists at the Mennonite Information Center, and retold the Biblical story at the Tabernacle reproduction next door, near Lancaster. Jean delighted in the global scope of the work of her church, adventurously visiting more than forty countries with Norman.
She was the fifth of six children born to Martin Rutt Kraybill and Suie Eby Garber Kraybill. Four of her siblings preceded her in death - Arlene (1919), Wilmer (2004), Simon (2021), and Maribel (2010), and she is survived by Nevin. She is also survived by her husband Norman, who distinguished himself as her faithful companion in health and caregiver in sickness, and her three sons Gerald Shenk married to Sara Wenger Shenk, Philip Baker-Shenk married to Charlotte Baker-Shenk and Steven Shenk married to Kimberly Iliff Shenk.
Jean prayed daily by name for each of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren for many years until dementia eroded that discipline. She is survived by her grandchildren, Joseph Alexander Shenk (Amina Auezova), Timothy Kennel Shenk (Michelle Kennel), Sara Margareta Bucher (Matthew Bucher), Jesse Baker Shenk, Jennifer Ludmilla Baker Shenk (Jordan Hollinger), Tara Mease (Jon Mease) and step-grandchildren Kristen Scanlan (James Scanlan) and Andrew Fritsch. She was blessed with great-grandchildren, Ari and Jacob Shenk, Madeleine and Lydia Kennel Shenk, Samuel and Nathan Bucher, Alexander Mease, and Finnigan Scanlan.
As she sent family members out into the world she loved; Jean always said, "Remember who you are and where you come from." Her family is grateful for the goodness of life we have received from her, and for precious memories of her love for God's work in God's world. Most recently, we have deeply appreciated the supportive work of the kind Health Care staff at Landis Homes and would be grateful for any memorial gifts in her name (in lieu of flowers) to be given to the Landis Homes Caring Fund, 1001 East Oregon Road, Lititz, PA 17543.

Shertzer, Henrietta M. Martin
February 7 1943 - April 13, 2023
Henrietta M. Shertzer, 80, of Lancaster, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, whom she deeply loved, on Wednesday, April 13, 2023 at Lancaster General Hospital. Her husband, John W. Shertzer, survives. They would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on August 3rd.
Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late John S. and Elmeda (Bowman) Martin.
Henrietta was employed as a housekeeper for Bird-In-Hand Family Inn for 20 years.
A member of Groffdale Mennonite Church, she enjoyed flower gardening and cooking for family and friends. Her infectious smile and laughter and her joy for life are remembered by many. She was deeply involved in the lives of all her children and grandchildren, proven by the many, many pictures hanging on the walls of their home.
Surviving in addition to her husband are two children, Teresa married to David Groff, Lancaster and Todd married to Twila Shertzer, Lancaster; five grandchildren, Josiah Groff husband to Casi (Smucker) Groff and Abby (Groff) King wife of Jesse King, Dylan Shertzer husband to Makayla (Horning) Shertzer, Tanner Shertzer fiancé of Megan Rogers, and Sawyer Shertzer; two great-grandchildren; and two step-siblings.
She was preceded in death by three step-siblings.
Her funeral will be held on Thursday, April 20, 2023, at 10 a.m. at Groffdale Mennonite Church, 168 N. Groffdale Rd., Leola. Samuel M. Shetler, 74, of LaGrange, (district: 4-1) formerly (13-1), died at 6:25 pm on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at Parkview Hospital, LaGrange. He was born on October 4, 1948, in Monroe, to Levi J. and Mary S. (Hilty) Shetler. On June 12, 1969, in Monroe he married Amanda N. Schwartz, she survives. Samuel and Amanda were married 54 years and 8 days.
Survivors in addition to his wife are five sons, James S. (Amanda) Shetler of LaGrange, Alvin S. (Emma) Shetler of Monroe, Nathaniel S. (Katieann) Shetler of Bloomingdale, MI, Daniel S. (Esther) Shetler of Bryant, Paul S. (Emma) Shetler of Berne; two daughters, Maryann S. (Reuben) Wickey of LaGrange and Susan S. (Christy) Hilty of Goshen; 75 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Jacob (Freeda) Shetler of Monroe, Paul (Leah) Shetler of Berne, Marcus (Martha) Shetler of Hicksville, OH, and Levi Jr. (Mandy) Shetler of Homer, MI; five sisters, Amanda (Paul) Schwartz of White Cloud, MI, Lucinda (Levi) Schwartz of Monroe, Amy (James) Hilty of LaGrange, Annie (Marvin) Schwartz of Shipshewana, and Larene (Willis) Graber of Geneva.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Samuel S. Shetler; two grandchildren.
Samuel was a member of the Old Older Amish Church. He was Ordained as a minister on May 9th, 1999.
Visitation will be after 1:00 pm on Friday, June 23, and all-day Saturday, June 24, at the Reuben Wickey residence, 0235 N. 400 E., LaGrange. Elvin M. Shirk, 35, of 929 Glenwood Dr., Ephrata, died on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, in Johnson City, TX as a result of a bicycle/motor vehicle accident.
Born in Ephrata, he was the son of Raymond W. and Lydia H. (Martin) Shirk of Ephrata.
Elvin was employed at AB Martin and was a member of Martindale Mennonite Church, Weaverland Conference.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by eight siblings: Miriam Shirk, Ephrata, Ivan Shirk, Ephrata, Mark married to Esther (Martin) Shirk, Ephrata, Martha Shirk, Ephrata, John David married to Ella Mae (Zimmerman) Shirk, Penn Yan, NY, Mary Etta Shirk, Ephrata, Minerva Shirk, Ephrata and Alvin married to Kathryn (Zimmerman) Shirk, Denver and 16 nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held on Friday, March 17, 2023, at 9:30 a.m. at Martindale Mennonite Church with Bishop Amos G. Martin, Paul Hurst, Jr., David Martin and James Martin officiating. Esther W. Shirk, 79, of Martindale, passed away at home on Saturday, December 16, 2023.
Born in W. Earl Township, she was the daughter of the late Martin S. and Esther B. Weaver Shirk.
Esther was a member of the Martindale Mennonite Church, Groffdale Conference. She had been employed by Casual Living Unlimited in New Holland for many years.
Surviving is a brother, Eli W. husband of Anna Shirk of Mifflinburg; two sisters, Mary W. Leid of Martindale, and Martha wife of J. David Martin of Shippensburg; two sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Shirk and Arlene Shirk; and 43 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by sisters, Susie Shirk, Edna Martin and Ruth Shirk and by brothers, Edwin and Clarence Shirk.
Her funeral will be held on Thursday, December 21, at 9:30 a.m. at Martindale (Frame) Mennonite Church with Bishop Leon Zimmerman officiating. Interment in the adjoining church cemetery. Laura (Nolt) Shirk, age 80 years, 11 months, and 19 days, of Barnett, MO, entered into rest on September 9, 2023. She was born on September 20, 1942, the daughter of John and Elizabeth Nolt. She was united in marriage on January 7, 1965, to Raymond W. Shirk, who survives of the home.
Along with her husband, she is survived by her 3 sons, Eugene (Elva) Shirk of Shiloh, OH, Raymond Jr, (Ruth) Shirk of Barnett, MO, Marvin (Evelyn) Shirk of Latham; son-in-law, John Adam Leinbach of Barnett, MO; 5 daughters, Laura Jane (Lester) Stauffer of Wheeling, MO, Rose Ella (Nevin) Nolt of Wheeling, MO, Lena Mae (Leland) Hoover of Fortuna, MO, Nancy (Alvin) Shirk of Latham, MO, Ida Jean (Wayne) Hurst of Latham, MO, and 77 grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are all her brothers and sisters: Anna Mae Nolt of New Holland, PA, Lydia (Rueben) Shirk of Barnett, MO, Allen (Mary Ella) Nolt of Clyde, NY, Eli (Anna) Nolt of Ephrata, PA, John Henry (Esther) Nolt of New Holland, Elizabeth (John Aaron) Hoover of Shippensburg, PA, Paul (Almeta) Nolt of New Holland, PA, Edward (Edna) Nolt of Greenwich, OH, Nora (Reuben) Zimmerman of Barnett, MO.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Anna Mary Leinbach, and a grandson, Kyle Hoover.

Linda Frances Koogler Showalter, 67, a resident of Dayton, passed away Thursday, Oct. 12, 2023, surrounded by her family at home.
Mrs. Showalter was born Jan. 23, 1956, in Rockingham County and was a daughter of the late Paul Rohrer and Beulah Frances Burkholder Koogler.
She was a homemaker and member of Riverdale Old Order Mennonite Church.
On Nov. 20, 1975, she married Glen Showalter, who survives.
Surviving are a child, Chris Showalter and wife, Vicky, of Dayton; sisters, Elaine Rohrer and husband, Fred, of Dayton, Lydia Showalter and husband, Wayne (deceased) of Criders; grandchildren, Shayna, Jacob, Quinn, Tyler, Faith, Moriah, Eliana, all of Dayton; sisters-in-law, Norma Yoder and husband, Gordon, of Dayton, Lois Shank and husband, Larry, of Bridgewater, Alice Good and husband, Raymond, of Dayton, Faye Good and husband, Allen, of Dayton; and brothers-in-law, Eldon Showalter and wife, Joyce, of Bridgewater, Leon Showalter and wife, Dorothy, of Mount Crawford and Kevin Showalter and wife, Ellen, of Dayton.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Showalter was preceded in death by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mahlon and Lydia Showalter.
The ministers of the church will conduct a funeral service at Riverdale Old Order Mennonite Church Monday, Oct. 16, 2023, at 10 a.m. Burial will be held in the church cemetery.

Showalter, William Earl, III "Wes"

William Earl “Wes” Showalter III, 48, a resident of Rockingham, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2023.
Mr. Showalter was born May 9, 1974, in Rockingham County and was the son of Barbara Campbell Showalter of Harrisonburg and the late William Earl Showalter Jr.
He was a 1992 graduate of Harrisonburg High School. Wes worked at Red Front Supermarket where he met his wife, Jeanne. He later worked for PSI, Transprint, was a gold smith at Christopher William Jewelers and owned his own scrap metal business. He volunteered with the West Rockingham food pantry and with Open Doors. He loved mission trips, jeeps, his family and friends and spending time with his grand dog, “Oakley.” Even with his health issues, he strived to always help others and was an inspiration to all who knew him. He was a member of Mt. Clinton United Methodist Church.
On Aug. 26, 1995, he married Jeanne Ann Shifflett, who survives.
Also surviving, in addition to his wife and mother, are a daughter, Rachel Showalter Campbell and husband, Christian; mother-in-law, Connie Shifflett; brother-in-law, Jason Shifflett; sister-in-law, Beth Shifflett; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Roger “Tommy” Shifflett.
Pastor Kevin Poeckert will conduct a funeral service Sunday, Jan. 15, 2023, at 2:30 p.m. at Mt. Clinton Mennonite Church. Burial will follow at Mt. Clinton Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday, Jan. 14, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Evelyn Irene (Horst) Shumaker, 91, of Lititz, PA went to be with our Lord on Tuesday, February 28, 2023 while living at Brethren Village, Lititz.
She was born in Ephrata to the late Amos and Mary (Leisey) Horst. The loving wife of Melvin G. Shumaker, they would have celebrated 72 years of marriage on March 25th of this year.
She was a member of Neffsville Mennonite Church, Lancaster, PA for most of her life.
She spent many years employed by Victor F. Weaver, Inc. poultry in New Holland. Later, as owner and operator of Red Maple Guest Home, Ephrata, PA, she and her husband enjoyed meeting new people and making lasting friendships.
As a member of the Camp Lighters Association, she enjoyed camping with family and friends. An avid seamstress she used her sewing skills to create matching outfits when her daughter was small. In her latter years, for residents at Brethren Village she often made pillows, seat cushions, and pocket hangings for those with walkers. This was just a token of her generous heart and loving care for the welfare of others.
In addition to her husband, Evelyn is survived by her son, Bryon, husband of Deborah Shumaker; her daughter, Brenda, wife of Ron Hufford; four grandchildren: Jamie, wife of Tim Ogden, Whitney, wife of Justin Barlup, Cody, husband of Ashely Hufford and Chase Hufford; as well as three great-grandchildren, Paisley Hufford, Levi Ogden and Jude Ogden. She is also survived by seven siblings: Roy, husband of Ruth Horst, Carolyn Brubaker, Marilyn Denlinger, Lorraine, wife of Art Hostetler, Gladys Horst, Gloria, wife of Jim Rosenberger and Galen, husband of Jenny Anne Horst-Martz; along with fourteen nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend a service celebrating life eternal, Saturday, March 11, 2023 at 11 AM to be held in the Brethren Village Chapel, 3001 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA. A graveside internment will be held at 3:00 PM at the cemetery of Weaverland Anabaptist Faith Community (formerly Weaverland Mennonite Church); located at Weaverland Valley Road and Weaverland Road, East Earl, PA.

Peggy Lee Sieber, 64, of Mansfield, Illinois passed away at 11:15 AM on Monday, July 31, 2023 at her residence.
A service to celebrate Peggy’s life will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, August 5, 2023 at the First Mennonite Church, 902 West Springfield Avenue, Urbana, Illinois. The Edwards Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
Peggy was born on December 26, 1958 in Newton, Kansas. She was the daughter of Lloyd Mason and Wanda Lee (Welty) Headrick. She married Marlin Floyd Sieber on September 16, 1978 in Hesston, KS.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Marlin of Mansfield, IL, three children, Lyndsey Jantz and her husband Josh, Breanne Lee Sieber all of Hesston, KS, and Travis Paul Sieber and his wife Katie of Newton, KS, five cherished grandchildren, Reese and Piper Jantz, Rylee Creamer, and Brynlee Sieber and Brayden Monares, two sisters, Denise Krase and her husband Bruce of Newton, KS, Jackie Randol and her husband Glenn of Wichita, KS, one brother, Kyle Headrick of Goessel, KS, two brothers-in-law, Gerry Sieber and his wife Vonnie of Newton, KS, and Del Sieber and his wife Sandy of Bondville, IL, and two sisters-in-law, Norma Symns and her husband Tom of Longmont, CO and Nancy Seaman and her husband Denny of Champaign, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Wanda Headrick, and her in-laws, Paul and Martha Sieber.
Peggy was a member of the First Mennonite Church in Urbana, Illinois.
Peggy dedicated herself to caring for others throughout her life. Her career spanned nearly 30 years as a registered nurse at OSF Heart of Mary in Urbana, where she made a lasting impact in the Labor and Delivery department. She brought comfort and support to countless families during their most precious moments.
Outside of work, Peggy found immense joy in nature. She could often be found on their family farm, indulging in her love for horses or quietly observing the various bird species that graced their surroundings. Peggy's passion for bird watching allowed her to connect with the peace and beauty of the natural world.
Peggy will be remembered for her unwavering love for vintage hats and her exceptional skills in sewing, and crocheting. She was more than just a collector or a skilled craftswoman; she embodied grace, kindness, and warmth.

November 23, 1939 - August 20, 2023
Chris J. Slabaugh Sr., age 83, of Nappanee, died at 9:10 am, Sunday, August 20, 2023 at Bremen Community Hospital, where he been a patient for 5 days. He was born November 23, 1939 in Nappanee to Joseph T. and Lillie (Troyer) Slabaugh. On December 23, 1960, he married Alma A. Hochstetler in Nappanee.
She survives along with their children, Chris (Mary) Slabaugh Jr., Lloyd (Katie) Slabaugh, James (Ruth) Slabaugh, David (Vonda) Slabaugh, Diane (Harley) Yoder, all of Nappanee, Regina (Ernest) Miller, Bremen; 36 grandchildren; 50 great grandchildren; brother, Lester (Ann) Slabaugh, North Port, FL; sister, Sylvia (Junior) Miller, Dunnigan, MO; and sister-in-law, Elizabeth Slabaugh, Nappanee.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Tobias Slabaugh; and sisters, Edna Schwartz, Wilma Eash, and Ida Miller.
Mr. Slabaugh was a farmer and a member of the Old Order Amish Church.
Family and friends may call after 2 Monday, August 21, 2023 and all day Tuesday, August 22nd at the Leon Bontrager residence, 111 2 B Rd, Nappanee. Funeral services will be at 9:30 am, Wednesday, August 23rd at the Bontrager residence. Home Ministry of the Old Order Amish Church will officiate and burial will be in Weldy Cemetery.

Slabaugh, Elizabeth Hochstetler
February 16, 1935 - September 29, 2023
Elizabeth Slabaugh, age 88 of Nappanee, IN, died at 4:38 am on Friday, September 29, 2023 at her residence after a short illness. She was born on February 16, 1935 in Bremen to Daniel E. and Susie (Borkholder) Hochstetler. On November 11, 1954 Elizabeth married Tobias J. Slabaugh. He preceded her in death on November 20, 2021.
Elizabeth lived her entire life in the Nappanee area and was a member of the Old Order Amish Church.
She is survived by her 6 children: Inez (Alvin) Lehman of Shipshewana, IN, Danny (Clara) Slabaugh of Nappanee, Joseph (Diane) Slabaugh of Bourbon, IN, Richard (Dorothy) Slabaugh of Nappanee, Ezra Slabaugh of Nappanee, and Arlene (Ronald) Miller of Nappanee; 30 grandchildren; 108 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; 2 sisters, Bill (Minerva) Cupp of Etna Green and Lydia Ann Hochstetler of Sarasota, FL; and 1 brother, Raymond (Rosemary) Hochstetler of Nottawa, MI.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Marla Yoder; 3 brothers: Eli Hochstetler, John Hochstetler, and Perry Hochstetler; and 1 sister Sarah Hochstetler.
Visitation will be after 4 pm on Friday, September 29, 2023 and all-day Saturday, September 30, 2023 at the family residence (8949 W 1350 N, Nappanee, IN). A funeral service will be held at 9:30 am on Sunday, October 1, 2023, at the family residence with Home Ministries of the Old Order Amish Church officiating. Burial will follow in Weldy Cemetery, Nappanee.
Slough, Barbara Miller
September 4, 1931 - May 13, 2023
Barbara Slough, 91, of Goshen, died Saturday, May 13, 2023 at Greencroft Healthcare.
She was born September 4, 1931 to G.E. and Myrtle (Leek) Miller in South Bend.
Following her graduation from Elkhart High School in 1949, Barbara married Leland “Lee” Slough in 1950. They were married until his death in 1986.
Lee and Barbara were among the founding partners of Arrow Tool, a tool and die/precision machining business in 1966. Barbara worked as the shop’s office manager and bookkeeper while raising their three children. She sold the business following Lee’s death and worked as the Minister of Finance and Facilities at College Mennonite Church until her retirement in 1995.
Barbara was a longtime member of College Mennonite Church. She was devoted to volunteering in the congregations where she attended, worked with the Indiana-Michigan Mennonite Conference, and served in the Oaklawn Auxiliary for many years. She was a member of the Goshen Healthcare Auxiliary and gave more than 8,000 hours volunteering in the hospital gift shop. She received the Goshen Health’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2019. She was an avid reader, prolific jigsaw puzzle solver, and a member of multiple game groups. As an active grandmother, Barbara was always present for her grandchildren’s’ concerts, graduations, and life events. She enjoyed her travels with friends and family.
She is survived by her children Rebecca (Joe Miller) and Greg (Linda Richer); grandchildren Tara (Benjamin Brookstone) and Patrick (Sara Sanders); a daughter-in-law, Jocelyne; step-granddaughter Angèle (Michael Mandle) Bernier-Mandle, and three step-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Barbara was predeceased by a son, Jon; a sister, Caryl Wogoman; and a brother-in-law, Wayne Wogoman.
Yoder-Culp Funeral Home will host a visitation on Sunday, May 21, 2023 from 3 to 4 p.m. On Monday, May 22, there will be a visitation from 1:00-2:15 p.m. and a memorial service at 2:30 p.m. at College Mennonite Church. She will be interred at Violett Cemetery in Goshen in a private family service.

Smoker, Esther B. Stoltzfus
March 13, 1925 - June 2, 2023
Esther B. Smoker, age 98 of Lancaster, PA, passed away peacefully at the Lancaster General Hospital on Friday, June 2, 2023. She was the wife of the late Norman B. Smoker, who passed away on November 19, 2008. She was born in Atglen, daughter of the late John N. & Martha S. Beiler Stoltzfus. She was a member of the Neffsville Mennonite Church. Along with her husband they owned and operated the former Deitsch Shier/Best Western Motor Lodge of Intercourse from 1967 until retirement in 1985. In her retirement she had worked at Costco of Lancaster. She enjoyed quilting, tending her flowers and cooking.
Surviving are 3 sons: Larry A. Smoker of Akron, Carl L. husband of Sandra Bare Smoker of Lancaster, Jeffrey L. husband of Linda Sweigart Smoker of New Holland, 3 grandchildren: Kim A. wife of Mike Hoover, Justin L. Smoker, Kelsey M. wife of Jefferson Baker, 2 great grandchildren: Benjamin Smoker, Elliot Hoover, 3 siblings: Viola I. Weber of New Holland, Leon A. Stoltzfus of New Holland, Gladys L. wife of George Miller of Ohio. She was preceded in death by a grandson Michael S. Smoker husband of Juliane Shaw Smoker, 3 sisters: Verna Zimmerman, Sadie Shertz and Bertha Oatman.
Funeral service will take place at the Neffsville Mennonite Church, 2371 Lititz Pike, Lancaster, PA, on Friday, June 9th at 11 a.m. with a viewing time from 10 a.m. until time of service. Interment will take place in the Ridgeview Mennonite Cemetery, 3723 Ridge Road, Gordonville, PA at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Neffsville Mennonite Church Benevolence Fund.
Smoker, Esther Grace Blank
July 26, 1929 - August 17, 2023
Esther Grace Smoker, age 94, formerly of Gordonville, passed away on Thursday, August 17, 2023 at Garden Spot Village in New Holland. She was the wife of the late Reuben S. Smoker who passed away on February 25, 2019. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Amos and Annie Lapp Blank. Esther was a member of Ridgeview Mennonite Church. In the past, she worked at the former Paradise Sewing Factory, was a nurse's aide at Lancaster General Hospital for a few years, and worked in hospitality at the Stoltzfus Restaurant in Intercourse for 25 years and the Travelers Rest Motel for 30 years. She enjoyed spending time with her family and spending her winters in Sarasota, FL.
Surviving are 3 children: Thelma J. wife of Eugene Sensenig of Denver, James E. Smoker, Linda S. wife of Stephen Simmons both of Gordonville, 6 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and 6 siblings: Rebecca Stoltzfus of Intercourse, Naomi Glick of Lancaster, Elam "Bud" Blank of Parkesburg, Paul husband of Gloria Blank of Ronks, Anna wife of Harry Sauder of New Holland, and Clair husband of Evelyn Blank of New Holland. She was preceded in death by 3 siblings: Ruth, Ira and Alvin Blank. The family would like to thank the staff at Garden Spot Village, Mountain View, and Hospice & Community Care for the care given to Esther.
Funeral service will take place on Wednesday, August 23, at Ridgeview Mennonite Church, 3723 Ridge Road, Gordonville, at 11 a.m. with Milt Stoltzfus officiating. Interment will be in the Maple Grove Mennonite Cemetery also on Wednesday at approximately 2 p.m. There will be a viewing at Ridgeview Mennonite Church on Tuesday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and again on Wednesday at the church from 10 a.m. until time of service. Smoker, Wilmer J.
February 7, 1966 - January 31, 2023
Wilmer J. Smoker, age 56 of Ronks, passed away on Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at the Reading Hospital. He was the husband of Carolyn King Smoker with whom he celebrated 28 years of marriage on September 24th.
Born in Ronks, he was the son of the late Michael and Katie King Smoker. He was a member of Spring Garden Amish Mennonite Church in Kinzers. He worked at Peaceful Valley in the furniture warehouse and also worked at market. Wilmer loved music, outdoor adventures, and all things western.
Surviving besides his wife is his daughter; Katelyn S., wife of Samuel Stoltzfus of Gap, and 4 siblings: Rueben, husband of Gale Sollenberger Smoker of Gap, Ruth Ann, wife of the late Ben Beiler of Ronks, Hannah, wife of Christ King of Kinzers, and Lester, husband of the late Rachel Stoltzfus Smoker of Ronks.
Funeral service will take place at Spring Garden Amish Mennonite Church, 5157 Old Philadelphia Pike, Kinzers, on Friday, February 3rd at 10 a.m. There will be a viewing time at the church on Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and again from 6 to 8 p.m. Interment will be in the adjoining church cemetery.
Smucker, Glen D.
November 14, 1949 - May 1, 2023
Orrville -- Glen D. Smucker, age 73, of Orrville, passed away on Monday, May 1, 2023, at his residence in Orrville, following an extended battle with ALS.
Glen was born on November 14, 1949, in Wooster, Ohio, to the late Merl and Grace (Brownson/Schwary) Smucker and graduated from Smithville High School in 1968. He then obtained his Bachelor's of Science in Farm Education from The Ohio State University. He married Lois M. Rittenhouse on May 29, 1971, at the Smithville Mennonite Church, and they have been happily married for nearly 52 years.
He worked as a self-employed dairy farmer on the family farm for years, and later began hydroponic farming before retiring in 2019 due to his deteriorating health.
Glen was a longtime member of Fairhaven Mennonite Church where he taught Sunday School, served as song leader, and as an Elder. He took Practorium Training (Advance Biblical Studies) at Orrville Grace Brethren Church. He enjoyed music, woodworking, carpentry, and helped two of his children build their homes, including one in Papau New Guinea. He sang with his wife in the Akron Symphony Choir, Wayne County Choral Union, Tuscarawas Philharmonic Chorus, sang in the Messiah at Oak Grove, and sang with the Cantata singers. He also played percussion with the Orrville Community Band.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are five children, Sam (Deb) Smucker of Ukarumpa, Papua New Guinea, Katie (Jim) Yoho of Port Charlotte, FL, Diana (Eric) Smail of Orrville, Mike Smucker of Orrville, and Debbie (Mitch) Zimmerman of Orrville; 17 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren with 1 on the way; two sisters, Josie (Bob) Smith of Emerald Island, NC, and Gorda DePasqua of Denver, PA.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may call from 5-8pm on Monday, May 8, 2023, at Orrville Grace Brethren Church, 2200 Paradise Road, Orrville.
Services will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, May 9th, at Orrville Grace Brethren Church with Pastor Allen Imhoff officiating. Private family burial will take place at the Smithville Mennonite Cemetery.
